Another great show this weekend, The Official Bad Robot Art Experience at Gallery1988 (the one west of La Brea), opening Friday night. I was there today dropping off my piece and the stuff I saw was terrific! Lots of Lost, lots of Trek, lots of JJ Abrams madness!
And here’s a sneak peek of my piece, “Live Long and Cross Stitch.” (24″x24″)
Just a quick reminder that tomorrow is the opening of Hello World. It will be lots of fun, with djs, yarn bombing, live painting… If you’re around, come by. I’ll be there most of the day helping and doing, then I’ll be back in the night after I get a minute’s (much needed) rest.
Man, am I exhausted!
Hope to see you tomorrow!!
Been super busy over here making and doing and showing and making and prepping (gasping inhale)… and not writing… but, I wanted to stop and let you know about up coming fun and things!
There’s a sensational new art space opening in LA, The Service Station, in Los Feliz, and I’m in the inaugural show, Hello World! The line up is fantastic and it should be a super fun event!
On top of that, we’ll be bombing! So if you’re a knitter, a crocheter, or just want to be, come and help us!! We’ll be beginning the bomb at the opening itself, and continuing through the month of the show and beyond.
I’ll post more details about stitch-ins, but for now I wanted to take the opportunity to say, “hooray!” and “Hello World.”
Lovely artist Jennifer Korsen, a co-resident at the Hive, is having a solo show this weekend of her paper hearts! They’re fab, and I was lucky enough to do a little colab with her (I can’t wait to see what she’s done, I love collaborating)!
Here’s what Jennifer says about the show:
“The symbol of the heart is powerful and vital, it is relatable across cultures and has been used to portray love, connection, and strength since ancient times. The heartbeat is the first sign of life in utero and the last sign that we check for post mortem. The heart is strong both physically and metaphorically. The heart endures. The heart is everything.
Please join me for a private opening of my solo show at Coba Gallery in Downtown LA just in time for Valentines Day! The show will be featuring my paper hearts series that I have been working on obsessively for the past 2 and a half years. Lots of new work as well as the full series of shadowboxes, and some incredible collaborations from some amazing artists I am lucky enough to know including Hollis Hart, Ellen Shinderman, Free Humanity, Jose Castillo and more!”
I’ll be there celebrating Ms Korsen; come toast her with me!
That’s right, it’s finally upon us, the opening night of Stitch Fetish!!! It looks great!! Here’s a peak at the entrance to the show:
Amy Sheridan’s Gallery of Glamorous Grooming
(that glob of earthquake tack will be removed)
In prep for the show, last week I did an episode of my pal Todd’s videocast, Film Pigs! Which I can’t seem to embed and I have too much to do to argue with WordPress right now, so you can watch that HERE. I have to say, it made me laugh.
And, if I didn’t have enough going on, my super talented new space mate at the Hive, Sarah Ockuly, and I re-did our space, repainted, blah blah blah. I think it looks great! Much prefer this to the previous gray walls.

Okay, off to run errands and such and hope to see you all this evening!
You all know I’ve been installing away (hope to see you tomorrow night, if you’re in the LA area), but did you know I’m still stitching away on other things? Well I am! Made some new doilies in the series, Annie and Maryanne; also made Betsy and Tacy, but they’re not rinsed and pressed yet. I’ll post those girls later.
Waking up and having some tea, but as excited as I can be before I’m fully awake, because today we begin the install for “Stitch Fetish!!” I know I’ve been going on about this show, but it’s going to be so great!! Here’s another little peak, Katherine Lawrie’s untitled works:
Hope to see you Saturday night!
Another thing happening is the fab charity show I was a part of in Miami is moving up to NYC! The reception and charity auction are being held Monday night, January 28th, at the Cristin Tierney Gallery in Chelsea. I can’t be there – too much to do here! – but my good friend Hally McGehean, who put it all together and is participating will be, as will The Suck Lord, Jamel Shabazz, Adam Horowitz who’s hosting (be still my heart), and a whole lot of other super cool artists.
If you’re in NYC check it out; it should be a lot of fun. Raise a glass for me!
So busy posting about Stitch Fetish, but there’s other stuff to share as well, like Young Adult at Gallery1988 in Hollywood. Co-presented by HelloGiggles.com, the show is all female artists on the theme of 80′s YA books.
I solved the mystery of what to make by going with Nancy Drew.
“Nancy Drew: Sleuth or Snoop?”
Show opens Saturday, Feb 2 (the same night as Stitch Fetish, argh! but you should stop there on your way downtown to the Hive!!).
I am so so so excited about this show!! As amazing as the Home show was, this one is going to be just as amazing! I can’t say better, that was sooo beautiful (thank you artists!!), but this one has a lot more humor and it’s dirty and you know me… giggle!
So, with no further ado, I am so proud (and already want to own all their works!!) to announce the artist line up for Stitch Fetish, opening February 2 at the Hive!!
Bren Ahern, Mark Bieraugel, Jessica Charlton, Yu Cotton-Well, Spike Dennis, Jeff Flemming, Kathy Halper, Tod Hensley, Chawne Kimber, Katherine Lawrie, Robert Marbury, David & Vesna Miller, Neda Nahidi, Esther Oh, Mo Powers, Gus Riker, Erin M. Riley, Oscar Rodriguez, Brian Schetzsle, Ellen Schinderman, Amy Goldsmith Sheridan, Alaina Varrone… with a few possible add-ons to come.
