L’Shana Tova! I hope everyone’s having a sweet and healthy new year so far. Eat a little apple with a bit of honey on it; that’s one of my favorite traditions to get up on the good foot.
I wanted to share this marvelously surreal take on Rosh Hashanah, sent to me by the wonderful and talented Mark Hanauer:

Keep meaning to share this. I’ve been doing some research for a project, looking for and at photos of NYC’s meatpacking district before it was gentrified. Specifically from the 80′s and early 90′s when there was still meatpacking and trannies. When Florent was the only restaurant we went to, and it was open 24 hours a day. When Larry, and Lahoma lived on the corner of little W. 12th and Gansevoort… and then I found The 5 Ninth Avenue Project, hours and hours of video of then and there. Young everyone doing the most amazing performances and looking amazing whilst doing so.
If you were there, be prepared to remember all the things you forgot by the next morning, and if you weren’t, enjoy just a taste of the wonderfully creative, eclectic time and place that was NY’s gay club scene of the 80′s.
The amazing Kristy Kizzee, also known as Bombastitch, has created something fantastic and is giving it away!!! A fabulous pattern to make an xstitch tribute to MCA. Stitching and BBoys? I can hardly contain myself!
You know I’m stitching this up as soon as I get a chance; one for me, one for MJ, one for T… Go check her shiz out, she’ll hook you up!
Big thanks to all who’ve re-posted my call for art!! Much love and also, represent. Word.
Here’s a cool new blog for all you PeeWee fans, Project PW, devoted to art celebrating the man, the legend, Mr. P.W. Herman. And how nice of them to feature my work!

Thanks to everyone who’s picked up and blogged my Tenenbaum pillows: Geekcraft, Cuss-Yeah, Wess Anderson, The Terrier and the Lobster, and if there’s anyone else I don’t know about, thanks thanks!
The show is up at Gallery1988, and the works are available on their website!
The latest Phat Quarter swap is music based, and Jamie called me out on having suggested the theme, so, no matter how much work I have on my plate – and there’s plenty – I couldn’t pass. Which is fine, really, because man have I been jealous of the stuff made! The horror mash-up swap produced some amazing work.
Anyway, I’m fairly certain the person I’ve made for doesn’t read this – or know it exists, so I thought I’d share. She, my partner, likes a lot of bands I don’t know much about – Slater Kinney, Wilco, etc – but she also likes the Beatles and the Stones, so I went with Lennon lyrics. Tried working in a different form than usual; I hope she likes it.

Commissioned by Roderic Crooks, who really is terrific.
I declare 2011 officially the year of the sock.
Is This Thing on? A Tribute to Funny People, Jan 7th at Gallery1988, co-presented by funnyordie.com!

Sorry about the terrible pun, it’s a sickness, I can’t be held responsible. But the holiday happened and life got away from me and I haven’t posted in a dogs age… or at least two weeks. Let’s agree it was a fortnight and move on.
I went up to San Francisco for Thanksgiving, which was a whole ordeal, but let’s not go there. While in SF I stumbled across a fabulous Japanese store on Sutter St., called New People. Everything there was cool – paper pipe robots, recycled paper plates that were like art objects, pop-up Advent calendars, stationary, art books…. if I had a lot of money I could have spent a lot of money.
One of the things that caught my eye (my mother saw me photographing and had to stop and say, “meh, I don’t think they’re that special,” but that’s because she’s negative and kind of judgey) were these cross stitched fake watches by Olex (who I can’t find any info on):
Not to blow my own horn, but the lovely folks over at Mr.XStitch have interviewed me for their podcast, Stitchin’ n Junk. The first half is up now. I sound like a bit of a dick, but not too bad, and they’re lovely, lovely (very funny) people.
Have you heard the news? Did you see the latest and greatest and grooviest? Well where have you been hiding? Head over to Ragtime Seance and check out what my pal Dru, and her pal Mathyld are up to. They’re giving classes on how to make beautiful camis and embroider them yourselves.
What? You want more? Okay, well they’re having a give away and you can win a lovely, personalized, hand embroidered hankie such as this one:
