Sorry to do it, but here’s more Crappy Taxidermy.  They are really turning it out for the season!

Done and done.  You won’t see the transaction on etsy, couldn’t for the life of me figure out the overseas shipping thing and he kept getting an error message, but we handled it privately through paypal, and he is now the proud owner of:

Now I just have to kick this cold.

They’re celebrating the holidays over at Awkwardfamilyphotos.com, too.  Can I digress for a moment and note how awkward the word awkward always looks to me?  Okay, that’s done.  The holiday countdown rolls on.  I’ve been felled by a cold, but I sold my first pillow.  As days go, I’ll take it.

Well, I finished the second one.  As previously stated, I’m happy with how Becca came out in the end.  I think I really got Dave’s motion and joy, but i don’t think it looks like him.  Lessons learned, faces larger, maybe, when going for detail.  And I think the patterning in his face was part of the issue, though that’s a bit of an excuse; I just don’t think I got him the way I did her.  But I’m not unhappy with the piece, just learning and moving forward (can you hear the self-recrimination hiding underneath?).

The gown is made from mahogany, lacewood, maple, and cedar, and her wig is wood shavings.

I’m making a second photo pillow, this time as a gift for my friend Dave and his lovely wife Becca.  I’m really pleased with her face, I really caught something of her, but the first attempt at her dress made her look, well, a little hippy.

So I picked out the stitching on the right side of the dress, restitched, and added a few lines in the dress to give the movement of her turn.

I think that solved it.  I love learning and fixing.

It’s a very crafty holiday season over here, at my place.  The thread and fabric is a flying!  I made a pillow for my Dad and Stepmother, and I think it’s going to be the prototype for a new line.  I took an iconic family photo of my Stepmother running on the beach with the family dog:

then I transfered the image, embroidered it, and made a pillow!

I’m pleased with how it turned out. Next, I’m making one for my Aunt.  I figure I can use the ones I make as gifts, as samples.
