Well it was a lot of mad stitching to deadline, but my piece for the show at Bleicher Gallery is done. I’m super pleased!! It’s over sized xstitch (I plan to get bigger and bigger – that’s what he said), 22″ sq, framed. I call her: “Nom.”
Holy wow, time, she sure do fly! This Sunday is the final day of Home is Where the Needle Marks, and we’re having a closing reception on Friday eve at Pop tART. If you haven’t made it out to see the show, please come by. We have a jazz band and wine and the weather is just lovely in the courtyard.
Then, Saturday, I’m so pleased and proud to be showing at the Bleicher Gallery on La Brea, in their show 21st Century Sex! I’ve really pushed myself with the new piece and I’m so excited with where the work is going!
Holy cow! It’s less than two weeks until the first opening of Home is Where the Needle Marks, my curatorial debut! The time, she is flying!! This is what all the stitching and hustle has been leading to of late.
In conjunction with Pop tART gallery, I have put together a fab show, Home is Where the Needle Marks. It’s a fantastic group of stitched artwork on the theme of “home.” In fact, so much wonderful work was submitted that we decided to split the show into two shows, in two spaces, with two openings! The first is Saturday June 9th, and the second Saturday June 16th.
We’re doing more stitching tomorrow evening at Pop tART gallery! Making small swatches to be bombed in a few weeks in a large-ish installation. If you’re in the LA area and can knit or crochet, or just want to be a part of a big, fun, stitchy project, come out!!
Stitch-in!! 6-9pm, Wed, May 23 at Pop tART Gallery – 3023 W. 6th St. Los Angeles, CA 90020 – that’s west 6th Street at Virgil.
Hope to see you there (we have candy)!
Keep calm and cast on!
What fun Saturday afternoon was! A group of us sat around and knitted and crocheted in preparation for Yarn Bombing outside my upcoming art shows! We had a ton of yarn, a lot of candy, and a craxy amount of laughter. T’was brilliant!
At long last, decisions have been made, and it was tough. We received many wonderful submissions. So many, in fact, that we are having two shows!! The first is the original, planned show at (sub)Urban home on Main Street @ 5th, downtown on the LA artwalk, on June 9th. Then, the following Saturday, June 16th, the companion show will open in the Gallery space – which we had not planned on using – on West 6th St. @ Virgil!! Very very exciting!
With no further ado, the artists: Bren Ahearn, Sarah Terry, Iviva Olenick , Suvi Aarnio, Ruth Tabancay, Brian Schetzsle, Penny Mateer, Joy Ude, Rebecca Ringquist, Sarah Corbett, Yu Cotton-well, Alaina Varrone, Xiang Gao, Ashley Blalock, Kathy Halper, Robert Marbury, Joetta Maue, Julie Jackson, Bascome Hogue, Ben Cuevas, Luke Haynes, Drucilla Pettibone, Tod Hensley, Erin Daniels Endicott, Mark Bieraugel
I am so excited!! This is going to be a fabulous happening!!
I’m in a super fun show that opens this Friday, October 28th, here in LA at Pop tART gallery. I’m pleased as punch – and honored – to be in this one. Not only is it a tribute to Bruce of Los Angeles, the first mainstream homo-erotic photographer, but it’s co-presented by Pacific Standard Time, who are doing such exciting things!!
