Every year I think, “This couldn’t get better,” and then it does. I’m so, so, so excited about this year’s Stitch Fetish (opening Saturday, February 6th at the Hive Gallery, DTLA), everyone has made such stellar, fun, fabulous work; I hope you love it half as much as I do.

I’m stitching away at one of my pieces for Stitch Fetish 4 this weekend. I have too many ideas this year, I think I’m making a bunch of pieces and then I’ll see what I accept from my own submissions. I hope you’re creating yours, or at least thinking about what to make. Only three and a half weeks to submit by Dec 15th. Can’t wait to see what you’re working on.

Here’s a sneak peak my current work in progress:

Nope, I don’t mean Halloween (though it has been pretty scary around her with things going bump in the night, I mean it’s Stitch Fetish 4 submission time!! Can you believe? I can’t! So here’s the basics:

Text Lady 8: Zoe (Body Shaming)

Stitch – verb 1a : to fasten, join, or close with or as if with stitches <stitched a seam> b : to make, mend, or decorate with or as if with stitches
fe·tish noun 1 a : an object believed to have magical power to protect or aid its owner; broadly : a material object regarded with superstitious or extravagant trust or reverence: an object of irrational reverence or obsessive devotion : prepossession : an object or bodily part whose real or fantasied presence is psychologically necessary for sexual gratification and that is an object of fixation to the extent that it may interfere with complete sexual expression 2: a rite or cult of fetish worshipers 3: fixation
Stitch Fetish 4, at The Hive Gallery, LA, explores art of the stitch (a rite unto itself), revealing the fetishized secrets lurking in the minds of the artists.  Works of erotica and titillation! Works of dark fantasy and longing.  Works of secrets never told, but long desired.
Artists are encouraged to submit works dealing with erotica, fetish, sex, and sexuality. Feel free to interpret this theme widely. All types of stitched work are welcome for submission: knitting, crochet, embroidery, needlepoint, cross-stitch, quilting, appliqué… If it’s stitched, please submit.  Please note we are looking for contemporary interpretations of theme and medium.

Head on over to my site for the rest of the info, dates, guidelines, etc.

Last year was a doozy! Let’s see if we can’t top ourselves!

Hello lovelies! I’ve been a bit AWOL. Had a job that had me travelin’, but that’s done, and these dusty boots are comin’ home to rest (thank all the gods). And you know what home means, art shows!! Two openings this Saturday, hope to see you at one of them.

Screen Shot 2015-05-20 at 9.52.03 AM First up is the opening of “We’re Here, We’re Queer,” at the brand new LGBT Center on 4th, in Santa Ana (from 4pm-10pm), where Miss Laverne will be on display through July 30th.

Come out Saturday night and start celebrating Pride month!!

And, it’s also time for the Hive Gallery’s yearly Circus extravaganza!

I made a little something something this year.

It’s finally getting warm, I can feel the summer nights calling… Hope to see you out and about soon! Come and get your art on!!!

Got most of the hanging done today, tomorrow final bits, and sorting, labels… Saturday’s going to come and go before I even realize it, so I’m trying to slow down enough to enjoy this. I have to say, with only a few minor glitches, it’s been pretty wonderful. Here’s today’s peek:

And here’s a link to a nice blurb in LAWeekly (scroll down, we’re the 3rd show mentioned – many thanks to Shana Nys Dambrot for the shout out!):

So much stuff, but what good stuff! Tomorrow, the hanging!

Hey! Whatcha doing Saturday night?? Come on down to the Hive for the opening of their August show.

I’ll be debuting the latest in my large portrait series, “Starrbooty for President,” and would love to see you!! And I’d love for you to see her in person!

The work will be online some time after the show opens and I’ll post a link. If you come by, give me a squeeze, or at least say hello. Sheesh!

That’s a thing people actually used to say. Aren’t expressions odd?

I have been craxy busy! Holy moley!! And I’m not complaining, but woof, I’m tired!! So let’s get to it!

This Saturday night is the Hive Gallery’s 9th Anniversary, best of show, which I have a piece in. It’s a new thing I’m trying, I think it will be a series. This one is “Makin’ it: in Hollywood.”

Busy busy stitching away for Gallery1988’s 10th Anniversary show (a biggie), and loving my piece, “The Filthiest Person in the World…”

And then on top of that I got the coolest commission this past week! The lead in Heathers: the Musical contacted me and wanted gifts for the cast for opening night! I cranked out 30 Heathers hankies in the past 48 hours. Here they are drying, I’ll post better photos, once they’re pressed.

Okay, back to work!

I shared this piece during the promotion of Stitch Fetish, but, as it’s still available, I’m sharing it again, plus, it’s too bad ass not to mention one more time: it’s Kevin Muth’s (aka Dirty Pillowz’s) amazing, erotic string art. But wait, there’s more!! We also have kits for sale! If you’re more of a DIY-er, you can make this phenomenal, neon creation for your very self!! Ladies and gents, I give you dirty string art (and way too many exclamation points, sorry, I get excited)!

Only today and tomorrow left to see the show in person; if you’re downtown, swing by the Hive!

460I’ve been posting lots of great art that’s still available from Stitch Fetish 2, and I will continue to do so, but I wanted to share some of the super nice press the show and I have gotten in the last month. I’m so appreciative to everyone who took the time to come down, take photos, ask questions, be in touch, and write such nice things! Big thanks to Cat Doss, Rick Galiher, Rebecca Rose, and Shana Nys Dambrot; you all rock my socks off!!

Cat’s piece for the Los Angeles Post Examiner.

Rick’s piece for Platinum Cheese.

Rebecca’s piece for Crafthaus.

and Shana’s piece on her personal tumble.

This has been a terrific month and show (three more days to get over to the Hive!) and there’s so much good on the horizon. Just wanted to stop and thank some of the people who are helping, pushing, and inspiring me to work all the harder along the way.

Don’t forget, Saturday night is the opening of the Season of Spring at Flower Pepper Gallery. There’s previews on line (for access, email Flower Pepper Gallery at; the work is tremendous.

Gettin’ down to the nitty gritty, last days of the show. Wow! It came up so fast, then we installed and had a party, and now we’re in the last week! Where does the time go?? Well, here we are, so let’s enjoy it!

I wanted to feature a couple of my very affordable artists today, because art is for everyone, and while their work may be lower in price, it still packs quite a punch! In fact, I think the works by these artists are a steal, and perhaps I’ll be buying anything not snatched up by one of you.

First up is Leslie S. Merritt, who made two photo realistic cross-stitches, both super brave self-portraits, and both amazing for their teeny tiny little stitches!

The other is Derek Sanchez-Hoeksema aka Oh Sew Nerdy, who’s known for his pop culture works. He took that contemporary sensibility and twisted it for these very fun pieces.

Robert Marbury‘s work is so great: smart, funny, on point. Robert may be best known for his work in the art taxidermy world, he’s the curator of  the biennial Rogue Taxidermy show and has a recent book out on the subject, but he’s also known for beard wearing (his presidential trading cards are amazing), odd photo taking, and cross stitch. Though some of  his work sold at the opening of Stitch Fetish 2, there are still several very funny pieces of his available in the show.
