And away we go…
I can’t believe it’s really here – how the hell did it get to be May? – but it is. At long last I am so very excited, proud, and happy to invite you all to the opening of my first featured art show! I have a whole wall to myself down at The Hive Gallery, starting this Saturday eve, May 5th. The Hive is big and very fun, with half a dozen shows up each month, giving different artists individual walls to fill. There is usually a group show in the center of the space and the night of the opening they have bands, performers, booze… all the right ingredients for a great time!
Gettin’ my stitch on over here. Here’s another piece to tantalize, not sure what the title is yet. I like how weirdly clinical the image is.
Go to Schindermania.com!
Last month Gallery1988 played host to Bwana Spoons and friends! I was lucky enough to score a piece.
Does anyone know how to art archive/preserve paper cup art?
And the continuing WIP over here… Lennie’s almost done!
Well, am I chuffed??? Yes I am! You can call me Suzy Chuffee… oh, er, um, no, on second thought you can’t, but I really am excited!! Not only am I featured over on the Mr. X Stictch blog, but it looks like they’re featuring me every Saturday this month – Swoon! Too generous Jamie and Bridget!! And so I’d like to return the favor and share some of their fantastic work with you.
First Jamie, or as he’s known around the web, Mr. X Stitch. This first piece of his I am lucky enough to own; he made it for a NSFW swap last year.
Are you in LA? Will you be next weekend? Good. I’ve got three pieces in a show of Erotica at the New Puppy Gallery!
Here’s a sneak peak at my dirty stitching:
Hey everybody, my artwork has been featured today on Mr. X Stitch‘s blog!!! It’s a great blog all about stitched art, mostly embroidery and cross stitch, but they’ve put my Beastie Boy portrait, They’re Crafted, up on the site. Thanks guys!!
I’ve been remiss (and a bit fermished), but I finally wanted to post pics from the show, which was a rousing success. The show itself was huge – you could barely move, it was like a night club – and both my pieces sold the first night. Hooray! They’ve asked me to participate in the summer show, Crazy4Cult, so… Look out world, here comes the needlepoint!
Okay, that said, in no particular order, here’s a bunch of pictures of the show and work from the show besides mine. If you want to, you can go back and see what I did. The show is still up at Gallery 1988 (7020 Melrose) and will be on display through January 29th. And now, with no further ado… Under the Influence: The Official Art Tribute to the Beastie Boys!

So I’ve been blathering about this in person, but I wanted to post here. There’s another super cool show coming up at Gallery1988, and (drum roll please) I have a couple of pieces in it. Yep, my very first gallery showing; it’s a group show, but still, and it’s a cool ass group show at a cool ass gallery. The show is all art based on the Beastie Boys, can you believe it?
The conversation, when they asked me to participate went a little like this:
Gallerist: So I’ve seen your work and it’s pretty cool. I was thinking we’d invite you into a group show.
Me: (acting cool, but not pulling it off) Oh, great. Do you know any themes of shows for the next six to nine months?
Gallerist: Yeah, I just got off the phone with Adam Yauch and we’ve got final permission to do a Beastie Boys show.
Me: Beastie Boys??
Gallerist: Yeah, but I can’t promise they’ll be here.
Me: THEY’LL BE HERE??
Gallerist: I said I can’t promise…
So I made two pieces. The first is a needlepoint of Cookie Puss, in honor of their first 12″. Framed the piece is 12″x15″
Here’s a detail shot:
The other piece is a straight up portrait of the BBoys; framed it’s 11″x11″.
And here’s a detail shot:
The opening is this Thursday night, January 8th, from 7-11pm at Gallery 1988, 7020 Melrose Ave, 90038, and the show runs through the 29th. Hope to see you there.
